In our next lesson I will explain my formula for planning lessons. This formula can be used for any kind of lesson - from kids to adults! I will then give you a very short demonstration lesson. After that, you and your group will plan a lesson for greetings and counting to 5 in a foreign language (the language will be a surprise).

Please answer ONE of the questions below in the comments.

1. Can you think of a fun lesson activity that you did as a child or in high school?
.
2. What is a good activity that you have done at TUFS or in a foreign language school that helped you learn?

1. Can you think of a fun lesson activity that you did as a child or in high school?
ReplyDeleteI made an English picture-story show in high school and did a presentation in front of the class. It took a lot of time, but we really enjoyed it and learned many words that we hadn't used before. Of course, watching others' presentation was so interesting, too!

We had a Japanese listening class in high school. Then we planed that learning Japanese vocabulary and listening from Japanese songs. We enjoyed singing Japanese songs in class and became more interested in music of Japan.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was in junior high school, my teacher selected different songs of English each month and we listened and sang the songs. I remembered the words and vocabularies naturally and still remember them.

1. Can you think of a fun lesson activity that you did as a child or in high school?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a junior high school student, we made a pair and made a short play.
We selected a scene whatever we want to play.
For example, if I am interested in a special English idiom of a docter, we make a setting of a scene of hospital.
we acuire many vocabularies and a special English idiom naturally and effectively.
I think this way of teaching is very intereting.

My answer to the question No2 is
ReplyDeleteIn French course at TUFS, students learn one conversation in a conversation class, and must memorize it by next class.
When I finished the 2nd grade, I was surprised that I was able to speak french much better than I had thought!!(Even though I said only ''oui'' or ''non'' in class, i could talk with the French in French :) )

1. In high school, we made a short newspaper-style report of a book we read in class. We made up stories with the characters and events in the book and even thought up with a name for the newspaper. This activity was very unique and creative and it also helped us hold more interest in the plot.

When I was a high school student, we gave a presentation every week in English conversation class. The theme, which was decided by teacher, was interesting. For example, "Ideal World","Ideal Man", "Ideal Future" and so on. I enjoyed not only giving presentation, but also listening to my freinds' presentation. And it was good that my teacher always welcomed any crazy idea.

Last year I studied English in a language school in Ireland. One day, we did a roll play game: we had got on a ship, which was wrecked. There only a few people could be rescued, so we had to explain how important ourselves and be selected. It made me to speak as much as possible and was good training, and moreover, was really fun!

2. What is a good activity that you have done at TUFS or in a foreign language school that helped you learn?
ReplyDeleteI am learning a conversation every week in Urdu. It is about different situations, for example a request, reason, present and so on. Students make a pair and do a skit in class.

When I was a child, we often played "hangman" in my elementary school and in the English school. I think it is fun and good to memorize vocaburalies. This is because the teacher tells it in other way to give them hints, and students imagine what the word is. I think the words which remember through this game are more unforgettable than other words.

What is a good activity you have done at TUFS?....well, there is a teacher named Matthew Miller and I think his class helps us learn...
ReplyDeleteHalf kidding Lol
I always learn things outside of class. One of the ways is to make foreign friends. By hanging around with them, you can learn many things, for example, their behavior, the tone of their voice, their language, and so on.

2. What is a good activity that you have done at TUFS or in a foreign language school that helped you learn?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was junior in TUFS, I took an oral communication class. In this class, I studyed corporal punishment in Japan and I had to express my opinion about it in front of many students as a final examination.
It was a tough task and I felt nervous. But looking back now, it was a good oppotunity for me because I could learn a lot of vocablary through this activity and I've still keep these words.
For this my experience stated above, I think practical training is very effective method.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was a junior-high school student, we made a "special school trip plan" in a Geography class.
We chose some countries we want to visit, and did some research on their location, culture, climate, and so on.
It was so exciting to me, I thought I'd like to know more about other countries!

1. Can you think of a fun lesson activity that you did as a child or in high school?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a elementary student, I went to a kind of English school kept personnally by a foreign couple.
There, when we learn some words, after we leran them with pictures, we always play some game. For example, we draw a picture of what the teacher said, or the teacher give us some hints and we guess what he/she imagines etc.
When the seasons of Easter, Halloween and Christmas, we decorated the house and we played some games which is related to the festivals.
in that school, there were so many activities but there was neither textbook nor workbook.
So, then, I don't have impression that I "learned
" English. I just had a fun.
Thanks to this school, I learned the pleasure of English and I had some opportunities to know the western cultures.

I attended a language school in Spain last year, and we often played a game called "taboo".
ReplyDeleteWe were put into groups of 4 and one person is chosen to be the speaker. (we take turns being the speaker)
This person has to explain a given vocabuary without using the 5 "taboo" words written underneath the vocabulary. The rest of the group guesses what the main vocabulary is predicting from the given hints.
For example, if the vocabulary is "World Cup" underneath there would be words such as "soccer" and "champion" so the speaker would have to explain by saying things like "It is taking place right now in South Africa,..."
It was necessary for the speaker to give hints and explain the word very descriptively. This gave us the chance to think and talk rapidly in Spanish, and also to build up our vocabulary skills.

The teacher taught the names of vegetable, food, apparatus such as pan, kettle and coffee pot and action like “cut”, “mix” and “roast” as we cooked. It was very good activity coz we could learn the vocabulary easily and eat delicious Turkish food, of course!
