Hi everyone!
One summer, when I was a 3rd-year student at university, I studied at IES in Vienna, Austria and Budapest, Hungary. I made lots of friends, drank A LOT of beer and I learned about language and culture. Mostly, I drank beer.
When I moved to Tokyo, I enrolled at MLC and went to Japanese language classes twice a week. In my class there was a guy from Myanmar, a girl from Hong Kong and also the ambassador of Burkina-Fasso! My teacher was great, but I really learned how to speak Japanese by going to lunch with my classmates after each lesson. Sometimes the ambassador drove me home in his limousine!!
In high school, I begged my parents to let us host a foreign exchange student. We never did. I'm still sad about that... :(
Please briefly answer ONE of the questions below in the comments:
1. Would you like to study abroad? Where would you want to go? What would you want to study?
2. Have you studied abroad already? Tell us about it!
3. Have you lived abroad for a long period of time? What was school like?
4.Do you know of any foreign students in Japan? What is their experience in Japan like?
5. Has your family ever hosted an exchange student? What was that like?
Also, we'll be reading part of this article in class (click here) so check it out if you have time.

(5. Has your family ever hosted an exchange student? What was that like?)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a 3rd-year student in high school, we hosted a Canadian girl. Before that I'd been hosted by her family in Canada, so we had known each other.
The life with her was very interesting and I learned a lot of things from her. Foe example, many English expressions, difference between Japan and Canada, etc..
Though it was a really great memory for me, I was very sorry that she NEVER tried to memorize Japanese words which I tought her...

Q1Would you like to study abroad? Where would you want to go? What would you want to study?
ReplyDeleteA.
Yes,of course. I'd like to go to France , and to study French and the international relations theory(between France and the USA).
Or I would like to go to the African countries in which they speak French such as Algeria. One of my dream is to help such developping countries become developped.

Has your family ever hosted an exchange student? What was that like?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a 2nd year grade in junior high, my family hosted a girl from Slovenia.
For me, she looked very matured even though she was almost the same age as my sister. What made me surprise is she spoke English very fluently. One more impressive thing about her is she didn't really like Japanese food. She didn't even try it. I learned that there are culture differences around the world.
I'm sorry that her staying in Japan was only a week. I wish we had more time to know each other.

When I was 11 years old, my family hosted a girl from Australia for one year.
ReplyDeleteBecause my mothoer was good at English, there seemed to be no problem at least relating to the language.
But she sometimes missed her family in Austraria. Also, she had asthma and needed time to adjust the new environment and lifestyle in Japan.
After all, however, she got accustomed well with Japan and we spent a great time together.
We still keep in touch each other, which is really nice!

ReplyDeleteI'd like to study in Czech Republic.I've studied Czech language at TUFS for 3 years, but I still have lots of difficulties in speaking, reading, and listening to Czech.I want to improve my language skills.

I have never traveled to foreign countries, to say nothing of studying abroad. Not until I entered TUFS that I scarcely have been friends with people from foreign countries. After I became friends with them, I have asked many questions about not only their countries but also impressions of Japan. For example, 'What is the excellent point of Japan?' 'What is the bad point of Japan? Through asking them many questions, I got quite different point of view. Becoming friends with people from foreign countries, it brings me quite different point of view. It is very useful.

ReplyDeleteI was in Spain for 8 months last year.
Although I am a returnee student and have lived outside of Japan for half my life, it was a special experience for me to go to a completely new country on my own. It was quite different from moving to a different coutnry with my family.
During the 8 months in Spain I not only studied the language but I had the chance to get in touch with the culture and the way of life in Spain. I also travelled around many parts of the country and around Europe as well.

I had lived in Turkey for one year and I went to both university and language school.
ReplyDeleteIt was very very special time for me, I didn't forget anything and I miss all things there.
One year was not enough for me. When I started to speak Turkish more fluently and enjoy more, I came back to Japan. So I want to go and live there again.

ReplyDeleteI've lived in Turkey and studied Turkish for one year, too! Actually, I didn't like there very much at the beginning because of its disorganization, but I came to love living there after I made friends with Turkish students. I spent the most of time with Turkish students who studied Japanese, so we taught each other and they told me Turkish culture and took me to the famous places. It was really nice experience and also so helpful to study Turkish!

1. Would you like to study abroad? Where would you want to go? What would you want to study?
ReplyDeleteYes, of course. I would like to study abroad. Especially, I want to go to the Phillipines to blush up my Tagalog and English more and more. In the Phillipines, English is a second language so many people living around big cities (like Manila) can speak both English and Tagalog. This circumstance is very good for me.

2. Have you studied abroad already? Tell us about it!
ReplyDeleteI've studied in Australia for about 9 months. There I was going to kind of language school and I met many people from all over the world. At first, it was so difficult to get used to their accented English, but as I spent with them I learned a lot of cultural things. Some of them burst into laughter when I told them about Japanese "bowing", for example, you just bow 15 degrees when you see your teacher in the corridor.

ReplyDeleteI've lived in California for about fourteen years and I remember that school there was actually a fun place. Ofcourse we still have to take notes of boring classes and finish loads of tedious homework, but classes were sometimes enjoyable and most of all, it was great to hang around with friends.
