Sports and Physical Education

We will be talking about sports and physical education (P.E.) in the next class. In Australia, the government set up a group of educational programs called SEDA (Sports Education and Development Australia) to help students who do not do well in a traditional school environment. The programs teach them real skills to prepare them for working in the sports and recreation industry when they graduate. Watch this VIDEO about SEDA and in the comments, tell us about something interesting you saw/heard.

  1. The programs offer students that not only having variety of sport classes but also support them to involve in coaching, exercise Science, event Management, sports administration and career planning etc. I think those programs will make them have more challenges and motivation to do other things.

  2. The students in the Video look very happy, they are always smiling. The smile also affects my feeling. This program offers students challenging and interesting cucurriculum, and one of the merits of this program is that the students have the opportunity to link with major sporting organizations(AFL Victoria,Life saving Victoria...).I think it is excellent practical experience.

  3. I feel it is good thing that Australian government set up a group of educational programs like SEDA for students who do not do well in a traditional school environment. If they continue to stay at the school which they feel unsuitable, their growth are prevented. One can grow on the condition that one stay the place where they feel suitable.

  6. Not all the students can adapt to traditional school, so it's good to have a new type of school like SEDA. If someone do not well in classes but they are good at sports, it's very good opportunity for them to study at SEDA.

  7. I think it's really interesting that there students with different backgrounds but having same interest in sports learn together.
Also, during the video elderly student tought young students how to play with the ball and so on. I think it's good situation that studants can communicate with each other no matter how old they are. It can help to become well-integrating person in the society.

  8. I think SEDA is great because it’s a better way for young students to devote their energy to sports than sit down and listen to boring classes. Also, students who have various backgrounds can cooperate with each other and improve their communication skills through sports. I’m so interested in this curriculum!

  9. I think it is interesting that it is the government that set up this program for the students in Australia.
There are universities like JWCPE (Japan Women's College of Physical Education) and Nittai University in Japan too, but they are both private universities and I do not think they were established for any reason similar to SEDA.
Personally I wondered why it was sports that the government chose to do, as it could have been any other type of activity such as music or drama.
I guess I wondered this just because PE was my least favorite subject at school and this school probably wouldn't have helped me even if I had not done well in a traditional school.

  10. I guess that the Government of Australia set up this program not only becouse that they want to solve the problem about the students but also because that they want Australian students shape up their body.
I heard that the percentage of fat people in Australia is the most(more than US).

  11. The students in this video looks very happy and seem to enjoy their program.
I am interested in Melbourne Victory Talented Player Program (I found it on the homepage.)
In Japan, if students want to be a sports player, many of students go to usual high school and join a club activities. This program can make students focus on the sport, so I think it is good.

  12. Probably the students enjoy the classes because they like these activities. I also liked the sports and I wished all the classes were PE class.
However it is necessary to learn other (basic) subject because I think well-balanced person is attractive.

  13. Teachers say that in SEDA students learn relationship with others. I think this is so important because everybody needs social skills to live in society. I think studying is also important to live, but learning relationships is very necessary.

  14. Students say that they couldn't enjoy the normal school but in SEDA they finally found their proper place. I think it is great for students to have various options of spaces to learn. However I believe that limitting your future when you're too young is not good.

  21. I think this program is very good because it gives chances and opportunities to learn sports to the students who dropped from traditional schools or the students who find no interests in P.E. class in traditional schools. It gives them future and dreams.
